Socks with shoes, how do you do?

Quick thought - socks with shoes. I love this look, but don't feel confident I could pull it off. Do any of you sport this combo? Or have you seen any other images of stylish ladies wearing them? What are the rules to avoid looking like a schoolgirl?

  1. I've never worn them but I think they look really cute. I think you could avoid looking like a schoolgirl by being careful what clothes you pair them with. You could use them to tone down something fancy or sophisticated.

  2. I find medium-size-print argyle in monotone neutrals look awesome with flats. Once you get into multi-color it tends to look bad.

  3. Oh those pictures are super cute. Not a trend I'd do myself - I'm super paranoid about making myself look shorter than I am, so I worry that I'd be cutting my legs (not literally!!) by wearing short socks, but I think you could pull it off! The orange dress in last picture reminds me of the Ceylon dress from Colette patterns!

  4. Great photos! I like the first one and think it looks best in darker colors. I think you could definitely pull it off and look chic!

  5. I love to wear socks in shoes! I don't do it often enough though, because it can be a bit impractical. I think the most important thing is that the socks you wear are really, really nice socks, somthing you want to show off rather than hide under your pants. Also I think the socks should be tight enough so there's no ugly bunching at the toe or around straps. The sandal and sock look also doesn't work at all if it's even a little wet outside, but when it's dry and not warm enough for sandals only, it works really well.

  6. i once had the best pair of gold glittery ankle socks that looked so good worn with chunky black heels or brogues!

Then the dog savaged them and put an end to that dream..

  7. I've never tried this as I don't think I'm elfine enough to make it look cute, but it is a very sweet look. I guess the main thing is to make sure your socks are pretty new-looking without holes! Love the last suggestion of glittery ankle socks, amazing with sandals! Good luck with this, I'm sure you can 'make it work'!

  8. I do this look with white socks, and mary janes. I have had nothing but compliments about the look. I do like the idea of pale argyle though. Good tip, I'll have to try it!

  9. We all like to extend the length of the leg. The shoe with sock gives the same look as the bootie style shoe when the sock matches the shoe. If you are short, use a shade (light, medium, dark) that matches your skin tone or repeat the same color near the neck line.
