Behind The Scenes at the Shows

Tilly and the Buttons: Shows Update!

Tilly and the Buttons recently exhibited at not one, but two shows here in London town. Lexy here, to give you a peek behind the scenes, and tell you more about them!

First up, we were at The Handmade Fair. This was our third time exhibiting at this event, and it's one that we always look forward to, as it's always such fun to meet so many lovely crafters... and there's the alluring promise of prosecco at the end of a long day!

Jo and I had a fantastic time greeting visitors to the show, Jo wearing her Bettine dress and I in my Etta dress (also known as Favourite Dress Ever).

We also brought our lovely, snuggly Hello Sailor Interlock fabric along, made exclusively for us in the UK, and absolutely perfect for stitching yourself up a Coco top or dress. Lots of people came over to give it a stroke, and commented on how incredibly soft it is. We can't wait to see what you make with it!

Here's another shot of me, in my Etta dress, made from one of our Etta Sewing Kits - this contains everything you need to make yourself a gorgeous fitted dress, just add sewing machine! (And have you seen? These kits are currently 30% off, until Sunday 1st October, so snap yours up whilst stocks last!).

It was also really fab to see some many people that we work with, including the publishers of Love At First Stitch (and soon, our second book!), Quadrille. They snapped this lovely pic of Vanessa and Jo, wearing a Rosa shirt dress and a Coco dress, respectively.

At the end of each day, we were treated to this gorgeous view of the River Thames, which was just the thing needed to relax after a long day of chatting and pottering around the fair.

The following weekend, we were off to the Great British Sewing Bee Live. This was the first time this event had run, so we were really excited to see how it would go.

Tilly and the Buttons: Shows Update!

It was - in a word - fantastic! All of the Buttons were super busy chatting about dressmaking and which of our patterns were on the catwalk, and we all really enjoyed it. If you watched the first series of the Great British Sewing Bee, you'll know that our founder, Tilly, was a contestant on the TV show, so it was fab to be a part of this event.

We were so busy, that we had to grab a quick drink when we could! Here's Office Assistant Katie, grabbing a crafty sip in between chatting to customers, wearing a lovely Martha dress that she whipped up for the show.

Sadly, it's not all glamour - even Sewing Pattern Developers have to wear hi-vis sometimes! Here's Vanessa, during breakdown of the Great British Sewing Bee Live. Perhaps Tilly and the Buttons should release a range of Hi Visibility Workwear?!

Overall, we had a fantastic time at the shows. Thank you so much to everyone who came and said hello, and to those of you who came wearing something made with a Tilly and the Buttons pattern. It was so fantastic to see what you've made, and we had a lot of lovely feedback, which really made our day! We hope that those of your who came had an excellent time. We're already looking forward to next year!

  1. I wish I could have been there! I'm in Canada but someday when I'm planning a trip to the UK I'm definitely coinciding it with all these lovely sewing/crafting shows you have there in the UK!

  2. There are 2 dresses in your pictures that I am interested in knowing if there are patterns to make them. The first picture has an orange/white dress between a blue and a black dress. What is that pattern? The other dress is red/white v-neck, sleeveless with gathered waist (picture with Katie sneaking a snack). What is that pattern?
Thanks and keep up the good work.

    1. Hi Karen, these look to be the sample dresses made for patterns included in Tilly's first book "Love at First Stitch". Unless my eyes deceive me, the orange/white one is called the "Megan" dress, and the second sleeveless dress is the "Lilou" dress. I started my sewing journey with that book from Tilly, it has greatly inspired me, would wholeheartedly recommend! Good luck, Fran

    3. Hello Fran and Karen!

Fran, you are most correct - these are both patterns from our award winning first sewing book, Love at First Stitch. It's so fab to hear that you recommend our book, Fran! :) x

    1. Thanks, Hannah! The shows are really fun. The pink dress is our Cleo dungaree dress pattern, and the spotty top is an Agnes top. Hopefully see you next time! x
