Inspiration for Making Your Rosa Shirt or Dress

Inspiration for making the Rosa sewing pattern

One of the (many) lovely things about the Rosa sewing pattern is that it can look so different depending on what fabric, styling and embellishments you go for. We've got another post coming up next on fabric suggestions (look out for that), but first I wanted to share some inspiration for different looks that you can create.

DENIM + CHAMBRAY

We are slightly obsessed with denim Rosa shirts with contrast topstitching. If it's good enough for Alexa... Try a lightweight chambray for warmer months, or medium weight denim paired with snuggly tights for Autumn/Winter. Ooh and boots...

These belts are quite cute too if you want to define your waist. you could make a simple fabric belt or sash and add belt loops to the princess seams.

GRAPHIC PRINTS

Go crazy with prints. Small and medium-sized prints are best on this design so you don't have to worry about matching them up at the princess seams :) Be sure to cut all your pieces out in the same direction if you choose a directional print.

WINTER / SUMMER

How about trying a fabric you’ve not used before? Try a fine needlecord or lighter weight faux suede for the winter, or a viscose or linen for all year round. (Omigawd that pink needlecord one!!)

WINTER FLORALS

Add a personal touch that’ll elevate your project to something so seriously fancy-pants that your Instagram followers will squeal with delight. We intentionally created a separate button stand facing on this pattern so you can make it (and the inner collar stand) in a contrast fabric. And how about adding some embroidery to the yokes? So beautiful!

Psst… live near London? We have a class for that!

SPOTS + CHECKS

Because... spots and checks! (Also - those piped seams!)

Stay tuned for our next post with some fabric suggestions - in the meantime, you can check what types of fabrics work and how much you need on the Rosa pattern page.
