Inspiration for making Stevie

Inspiration for making Stevie

If you can’t wait to get stuck into our latest pattern Stevie, a speedy-to-sew and addictive-to-wear project, you may be looking for a little style inspo to get you started.

It’s Louise here, and I am going to share some inspiration, as well as ideas for making it unique to you. This gorgeous, modern tunic is beginner-friendly (yippee!), and satisfyingly quick to sew, which means you can create plenty of every day outfits to take you through the summer.

Stevie couldn’t be any cooler if she tried, so keeping it simple with your fabric and styling lets the shape speak for itself. Try a coloured linen, simple stripes or grid print for effortless style that casually declares, “Oh this is just something I threw on" : )

Try out enlarged prints like this fun fruit design or play with the yoke detail and add a contrast panel to the bodice.

Ever walk past one of those super cool boutiques wishing you could buy all the gorgeous and hip clothes? Well you don’t need to spend a fortune to get the look because you can make your own!

Stevie works really well with block colours in fluid viscose fabrics, or modern prints that look so stylish like this hand-drawn grid print. Every wardrobe needs one of these big spot tops that will take you from day to night with ease, pairing with everything from high waisted matchy-matchy shorts to on-trend wide leg trousers.

Blue is universally flattering and denim tones are something most of us wear everyday so why not make your Stevie in blue chambray, floaty double gauze or crisp linen?

You can create interest with directional stripes on the patch pocket or play with its placement, or stash bust by creating a patchwork version!

Simple silhouettes are a perfect base for playing with print, and Stevie is just asking for some! You can jazz up your work wardrobe with a printed top version made out of fluid viscose fabrics.

Make a bold statement like this Marimekko tunic that is simply to-die-for, or go for a geometric print that feels super modern. If prints aren’t your thing, try out a simple polka dot, or confetti line print to give your look a little something extra.

One thing a sewist just loves is adding a special detail to a DIY project, amirite? Adding a little embellishment to your project makes it sooo unique, you can even buy fabrics with the embroidery already on and job’s done! I love the idea of adding pom-poms to a Stevie (dream!).

If you have somewhere special to go, how about trying out this 3D origami-effect applique (bottom center) to the top version, or using fabric with cut-work detail at the hem?

I bet that’s got you thinking about fabric shopping hasn’t it? Well watch this space, as I have pulled together a roundup of the most gorgeous fabrics to pair with Stevie coming soon!
