Today is one of those days that just keeps on getting better as we have a second brand new sewing pattern for you! Check out my previous post to read all about the Nora top if you missed it - and read on to find out about Ness.

The Ness skirt is a timeless design that also happens to be all over the high street at the moment. If you're wondering what to wear this autumn/winter season, Ness is the answer, with a Freya sweater or Rosa shirt tucked in... plus it's versatile enough for when the weather warms up next year too - hooray!

THE DESIGN

This dreamy skirt features denim-inspired details such as a zip fly front, topstitched mock felled seams, belt loops and lots of pockets - we mustn't forget about the pockets! It has a gorgeous curved back yoke and shaped waistband for a flattering fit. You can make it either mini length or just-below-the-knee length with centre front split. Add some contrast topstitching to highlight those beautiful style lines.

THE SEWING PATTERN

Unlike Nora, Ness definitely isn't the world's fastest make - it's one of those projects for when you want to get your teeth stuck into something a bit more challenging.

But never fear - it's not difficult, it just takes a bit more time. There are two bits that are potentially fiddly. The first is the zip - but our amazing new pattern cutter Serefina has introduced us to a construction technique that is easier than any others I have used for a zip fly. It's clearly outlined in the instruction booklet, with colour photos, plus we're going to share a video with you soon in case you want to see it in action.

The other potentially fiddly bit is the topstitching, but it's up to you whether you want to sew it in a contrast colour to show off your stitching, or choose thread that matches your fabric so no one will notice any (ahem) slight wonkiness!

Order the printed sewing pattern and we’ll send you a beautiful package in the post. Made in the UK, our patterns are printed on durable paper which you can use again and again without it tearing or scrunching up. As well as our online shop, you can buy them from fabric shops and department stores around the world - check our our list of stockists.

Prefer to print and assemble your pattern at home? Buy the digital pattern and you’ll get an email in an instant with a PDF to download. You can either print it at home on A4 or Letter size paper, or send it to the copyshop to print large scale.

SIZING AND SUPPLIES

Ness is designed for medium- to heavy-weight woven fabrics such as denim, corduroy, jacquard, gobelin (tapestry), drill, wool, cotton canvas... even curtain fabric! A little stretch for comfort is a bonus, but not essential. We'll share some pinspo and fabric ideas on the blog next week.

Find out how much fabric and other supplies you’ll need for each version on the shop page. If you can't find a zip that's exactly 12.5cm (5in) long, don't worry - get one a little bigger, as we have a blog post coming up on how to shorten a metal zip :)

The pattern includes eight sizes – from UK 6 – 20, US 2 – 16, or EUR 34 – 48. You can see the exact body measurements on the sizing chart. The pattern is pretty simple to fit, but if you do need any help Serefina has written a post on how to lengthen, shorten, combine pattern sizes and fix any fitting issues with the back yoke - watch out for that one soon.
