Who is the sewalong suitable for?

The Erin sewing pattern is suitable for confident beginners and up. And hey, if you're not so confident, so long as you can use a sewing machine and have made one or two projects before, you can join in as Abi will be there to show you every step in detail.

Just bear in mind that, if you're just starting out on your sewing journey, it's easier to pick a woven fabric that’s not too slippery, such as linen, chambray, soft cotton twill or needlecord.

More experienced? Join the sewalong to pick up tips and tricks you may not know, as well as to get the camaraderie of sewing along with like-minded makers around the globe. With more sewing skills under your belt, you could also try sewing Erin in a more fluid woven substrate like viscose (rayon) or a low stretch knit such as French terry and ponte roma. We'll talk more about fabric options in the next post...

Working together with Janome

The step-by-step sewalong is being brought to you in partnership with our friends at Janome UK.

Here at Tilly and the Buttons, we're big fans of Janome, who have been supporting creativity for over 100 years. They offer a range of sewing machines, overlockers and more for all skills levels and budgets. Tilly started her sewing journey on Janome, and we've been using our favourite DKS 100 model in the studio and at home for years!

Throughout the sewalong, Abi will be using the Janome DKS 100 Special Edition sewing machine, along with the Janome 6234XL Overlocker (serger).
