Inspiration and Fabric Shopping for Coralie Swimwear

Inspiration and Fabric Shopping for Coralie Swimwear

Ready for some mouthwatering ideas for sewing your Coralie swimsuits and bikinis

Sewing swimwear can feel daunting and we know for lots of sewists this may be your first toe-dip into the pool of supply shopping for this type of project.

This is why we aren't only launching a gorgeous swimwear sewing pattern and an online workshop, we've also got a fully stocked supply shop with everything you need to sew Coralie - including all the fabrics we used for our stunning photoshoot samples!

BUY YOUR SWIMWEAR SUPPLIES

We are stocking swimwear fabric for a limited period this summer, so be quick! If the fabric you have your heart set says 'OUT OF STOCK', click the 'TELL ME WHEN IT'S BACK' button underneath to get a notification if we restock it. At the time of writing, we have solid colours, lining and 6mm elastic back in stock verrrry soon and ginghams due back in early July.

SWIMWEAR FABRIC & SUPPLIES

Your main fabric needs to be a four-way stretch knit swimwear fabric with at least 50% stretch in both directions - crosswise and lengthwise. Look for a mix of nylon or polyester with elastane (AKA Lycra/Spandex).

For your lining you can use a swimwear lining, stretch mesh or more of your main fabric, with at least 50% stretch in both directions. (If you're using main fabric for the lining though, we'd recommend more like 60/70% stretch as two layers of outer fabric will reduce how much the finished garment can stretch.)

See above for the full breakdown of the Coralie sewing supplies!

Wanna create that gorgeous model look we know you have your eye on? Our swimwear supply shop looks tastier than an ice cream parlour! Let's take a dive into some serious swimwear sewing inspo...

GET THE PHOTOSHOOT LOOKS:

We can highly recommend colour-blocking your Coralie swimwear! Which can be especially fun when you add in some ruffles. We paired three of our solid shades of recycled swimwear fabric together to create this look; mint, neon coral and lilac. A mouthwatering combo, don't you think?

If you want to make a statement in one beautiful, bold colour, we picked our dreamy lilac recycled swimwear fabric for one of our eye-catching cover looks. Tilly loved this sample so much that she made an exact copy of this lilac ruffle swimsuit for herself!

Has there ever been a cuter colour palette than this delicate light cornflower blue gingham and chartreuse yellow gingham against lilac? This classic print does all the talking on our simple Coralie swimsuit and bikini styles.

Get even more out of your pattern and make a couple of coordinating bikini sets for your holiday! That way you'll have four different swimwear looks to rock. We love the pop of our neon coral paired with the light cornflower blue gingham.

Now you know how to get our Coralie photoshoot swimwear looks for yourself, here's some inspiration for the rest of our fabric collection...

POLKA DOTS

Yes, we rock a lot of polka dots here at Buttons HQ, so it was only natural we brought some in for our swimwear fabrics! Be bold with your mix and match style, and combine the spots with one of our complimentary solid shades (our black and white polka dot swimwear fabric will look great with any of them!), with as little or as much print on display as you like.

GINGHAM

You can NEVER go wrong with a classic gingham print, which is why we're stocking four tempting shades. Tilly whipped up a mint and white gingham Coralie swimsuit, just like the one above, for her summer hols!

SOLID SHADES

Plain shades don't have to be boring! We've got a tempting selection of swimwear fabrics in solid colours. Ideal for mixing and matching with our polka dots and ginghams as some of the shades are a complimentary match! Or find your swimwear style with some colour clashing.

MIX AND MATCH

We can't wait to see the kind of combinations you come up with using our delicious swimwear fabrics. Be sure to hold onto your fabric scraps as they'd be great for creating ruffles or colour block pieces the next time you make swimwear.

SHOW US WHAT YOU MAKE!

Here at TATB, we love seeing your makes and in-progress shots, so don't forget to tag us on Instagram @TillyButtons and @EvieLaLuve using the hashtag #SewingCoralie so we can see what you're creating. We can't WAIT!
