Best fabrics for the Noa pinafore
The Noa pinafore works beautifully in medium- to heavy-weight woven fabrics that have enough body to hold the shape. We made our samples in denim and needlecord, but there are plenty of fab options to try:
- Denim (light to mid-weight) – a classic choice for pinafores that lasts for years
- Corduroy or needlecord – adds cosy texture and retro vibes
- Twill – structured with a clean finish, perfect for a polished look
- Jacquard – for a statement piece with pattern and texture
- Wool suiting – chic, warm and winter-ready
You’ll also need:
- An exposed zip (size depends on the neckline and size chosen)
- 2 x 30mm (1/8 in) D-rings if you want to add the waist adjuster option
- Iron-on interfacing (similar weight to your fabric)
- Matching thread
- Sewing machine and basic sewing tools
We have a limited number of Noa hardware kits with top quality notions in just the right size.
Check the full fabric requirements and notions list on the Noa product page.

Is the Noa pinafore beginner-friendly?
Noa is rated improver level, which means it’s a great choice if you’ve sewn a few simple garments already and want to stretch your skills. With techniques like princess seams, installing an exposed zip and attaching an all-in-one facing with the clever "burrito method", it’s the perfect way to build confidence while still enjoying TATB’s famously clear instructions.
As always, you have access to our pattern support page packed with extra sewing tips, video tutorials and fitting advice to help you along the way.
