The Cat's Pyjamas

The Cat's Pyjamas: Tilly's Carolyn PJsThe Cat's Pyjamas: Tilly's Carolyn PJs
My Instagram followers can take full credit for the title of this post after I showed them a work-in-progress peek the other day - thanks guys!

This is my second version of the Closet Case Files Carolyn pyjamas. I made my first pair in a snuggly stripe double gauze, with long sleeves and full length trouser legs. The pattern also includes this short sleeve, short shorts version, which I thought would be really cute for the Summer sewn in this lovely lightweight kitty print cotton lawn.

Before you ask, the fabric is from Japan. Sorry if you're nowhere near there! (If you do plan to go, here's where I went fabric shopping in Japan.) If you know somewhere online that stocks the same fabric, do leave a link in the comments below.

I lurrve how grumpy the kitties look. Now that I say that, I had a scary dream last night about a deadly scorpion-cat - hmm... maybe the print has entered my subconscious...

There are lots of lovely details on this pattern, such as the piped cuffs and collar, as well as a faux fly and shorts pockets which you probably can't see in the photos. The construction is a little fiddly but worth it for the classic design.

I spent a bit of time making sure pattern matching the main pocket piece to the front shirt... and then promptly gave up when it came to the top of the pocket and poured myself a glass of vino instead! You have to choose your battles :)

  1. this is gorgeous, thanks for sharing!! :) I have something similar in my mind since I made a Carolyn with long arms and legs out of flanell (love it!) and I'm dreaming of a cotton lawn version as well (...whitch is hard to get here in Germany *boohh*). How much fabric did you need for your version?
    Nice regards,

    1. Ooh flannel PJs sound lurrrvely... I can't remember off the top of my head how much fabric I used but the amount is listed on the back of the pattern :)

  2. These look awesome! The black piping is very chic against the yellow and white cats. Great pattern matching on the pocket and to be honest I hadn't really noticed the top bit until you said!

  3. Love those cats!! I've just gotten the flamingo print from the new rifle paper co fabric release and I think I'm going to use it to make Carolyn pajamas! It seems like a great pattern for those novelty prints you just CAN NOT pass up. Short or long, though...

  5. I was recently in Japan, and considered buying that very same fabric! In the end I went for another cat pattern, but I really like this one as well 😍 It's particulary lovely for those PJs, I think! There is really quite a selection of cat patterned fabric in Japan, don't you think? My daughter bought yet another one.

  7. Love your PJ set. That black piping certainly elevates it! Yes, there are some grumpy looking kitties there but I did spot a couple of smiling ones...such a cute fabric!
