Fabric Shopping for Seren

Fabric shopping for Seren

Have you been swooning over our latest pattern Seren while making the very tough choice of which gorgeous fabric to use for your project? It’s Louise here, and I have a confession… I am a fabric shopaholic! I wanted to share my picks from online window shopping to help inspire your make. I am certain this flirty sundress is going to be your favourite me-made for many years to come.

Seren can be made in a multitude of fabrics and has some stunning details choose from (the tie-waist is my fave!). By using different fabrics, you can take Seren from picnics in the park to cocktails under the stars. If you opt for the flounce detail, choose a drapey fabric to keep it soft and flowy.

When selecting your fabric, think about how you want your dress to look and where you might be wearing it. Pick something with drape, like viscose (rayon) or crepe, if you want something more appropriate for the evening or just fancy something flowy.  Cotton fabrics are perfect for day wear and will also hold the shape of the skirt beautifully.

Please bear in mind that we haven't handled these fabrics ourselves (I have one or two in my Seren stash!) so order a swatch if you want to check how they look and feel IRL.

PICNICS IN THE PARK
Clockwise from top left: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4

Seren was made for picnicking on a beautiful summers day, don’t you think? I have always been drawn to a broderie anglaise and this one from Fabric Godmother is stunning (they have a few designs to choose from). What about this tencel chambray for a denim tie-front Seren? I've already snapped some up and can tell you it is sooo soft.

JUST CRUISING

Seren conjures up images of sailing the sea dressed in an utterly chic manner, and I can see her looking amazing in these crepes from Fabrics Galore (spots and stripes).

TUTTI FRUTTI

Fruits are a popular choice for sewers (we all love lemons, right?) and I think nothing says ‘summer’ more than this little selection. This crinkle viscose fruit cocktail puts a fun twist on a polka dot, and the drape should be perfect for the Seren flounce detail.

TROPICAL HEATWAVE

Tropical prints are all over the high street at the moment and there are so many fabric options to get on-board with this trend! You might fancy getting tropical but don’t want something too bright, this leaf crepe is a perfect balance of on-trend prints and muted colours, or you could try this tonal peach palm?

If prints aren’t your thing, you could go for this super cute seersucker stripe covered in tiny flamingos!

GARDEN PARTY

I love a BBQ gathering in the garden during the warmer months and can see this little selection making the perfect Seren dress for the occasion. This lilac linen would make a perfect easy, breezy sundress, or have a little fun with this iced tea cotton.

COCKTAILS UNDER THE STARS
Clockwise from top left: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4

If you find yourself sipping cocktails under the stars this summer, you will of course want to do this in style! Crepe fabrics make Seren appropriate for any soirée you might have,.

I am a HUGE fan of abstract prints, so I snapped up this rayon (no.1) which has plenty of drape for the flounce.

I hope this has inspired your Seren shopping! Comment below letting us know what you're planning to make yours in!
