We love an inspirational or sassy quote hiding in our makes, or a nod to the rest of your wardrobe that this new dress is one of a kind. So when Dortex got in touch with us to design our own labels for personal use, we jumped at the chance to design a collection of dreamy woven labels perfect for all the Buttons...
Picking which woven label to stitch into my latest makes (and even my much loved older ones) is now one of my favourite parts of the design process. I love matching the colours to my garment's fabric or totally clashing and letting the label stand out.
Designing your own woven labels can sound a little daunting and you might think you need technical or design skills, but with Dortex's easy to use website and online design process, you'll feel like a pro picking your colours, fonts and motifs from their stylish selection. There's a really great range of colours to choose from, along with various qualities, sizes & more. Allowing you to create gorgeous, unique labels whatever your skill or budget.
I wanted to create a variety of labels using both Dortex's label design building on their website, along with creating some of our own custom label designs in Photoshop and uploading them, so 1 could get the full experience. I used a selection of designs, sizes and colours, so we can demonstrate just some of what you can create!
Meet my new obsession... Everybody needs to create a cute name label tape for themselves (you know, like the ones your mum would buy for your school uniforms), consider this the grown-up version! I've always wanted some of my own name label tape and designing this in my favourite colour way, pink & red, was a dream come true and the results are exactly as I hoped.
To create mine, I uploaded my custom design here (which I created in Photoshop), picked the 15mm premium option and selected the colours on the website. They are seriously going in everything (even the reverse is gorgeous)!
For our 'Made For Me' and 'One Of A Kind' labels, I used Dortex's Cottonera Premium option and uploaded a custom logo (I designed in Photoshop) and again picked the colours from the website. The shades have come out so beautifully and these labels have an extra special professional quality to them. They are so soft to touch and having worn one in my Jaimie PJ shorts I can vouch that they are comfortable to wear against the skin. The folded over ends of these two designs also saves time pressing or fiddling with the ends to stitch them in - win, win.
I cannot stop stroking them!
I'm a sucker for a pretty floral fabric and I couldn't resist designing a label to specifically stitch into my flowery makes. Again this design is a custom one I created, but this time I selected Cottonera Classic 15mm labels in green and bright pink (another fave colour combo) and they've come out lovely! This is one I would definitely stitch to the outside of a dress hem too.
Our 'Handmade' and 'Doing My Best' labels were created directly on the website using the text and border motif options. Along with our custom designs, I wanted to try out Dortex's own options when designing. There are lots of stylish fonts and motifs to choose from so you can create some really fun designs! I looove how the silver glitter pops on the black labels and the sweet light blue needle & thread border motif on the other.
Don't forget to stack! I love pairing up label combos. It looks super cute when you have a variety of sizes and colours to play with. Like I said before, my name labels are now going in everything...
