Want some drool-worthy inspiration for sewing all the cosy, autumnal things? Sure you do! It’s Abi here (you may have seen my spring and summer sewing inspiration posts and vlogs this year too), I feel like I spend the majority of my year thinking "oh that would be perfect for autumn" - it's just such a satisfying time of year to sew and there always feels like there's a buzz online for sewing some snuggly new makes!
So here I am with my own autumn sewing plans and loooads for inspiration from the high street along with dreamy fabric picks. Grab a cuppa and enjoy this little lot...

Rock 'n' roll neck
One of the perks of sewing your own clothes is that the possibilities are endless. Take Nora for example, you can use snuggly cable knit jersey fabric or even fleece-backed knits for something toasty (or check out this STUNNING Nora top made with teddy fabric!), or use something lightweight to layer her up for all your Autumn outfits.
Big collar energy
If you've missed the oversized collar trend, where have you been? From blouses and dresses to easy to wear detachable styles, your wardrobe needs statement collars ASAP. The trend popped up on the high street last year and it's going stronger than ever! There's SEW many ways you can join in...
For the easiest way to try out the statement colour trend, see our FREE Tilly Collar sewing pattern. Add ruffles or leave it plain, you can even make it double-sided! This collar would look sew cute layered over a Billie sweatshirt or a simple Agnes top.
Take our classic Rosa shirt and play with the collar, it's an ideal time to flex those pattern hacking skills. Or check out the lovely scalloped collar on our chic Orla bouse. Choose a cotton poplin/lawn for a more structured shirt, and if you fancy something with a little more movement opt for a viscose or rayon type.
Skirt styling
There's a serious lack of 90 denier tights here, but we all know that's how we'll really be wearing these trendy skirts this Autumn.
When it comes to skirt styles, we've got your options covered. For our Bobbi skirt, needlecord would be extra lush for Autumn. If you're a viscose lover like me, try layering our Dominique midi skirt with boots for a transitional look. Heavier wool checks work perfectly with our Arielle skirt and you could even try snuggly Ponte Roma fabrics for our pull-on Bibi skirt (from Tilly's book Stretch).
Swish swish swish
Just because the weather gets colder, doesn't necessarily mean the dresses get longer, in fact, summer was all about midi dresses. But this season is shaping up to be one for the swishy knee skimming number and we're here for it!
Our Martha dress has endless potential to be your go-to dress for smart-casual dressing. Easily layered up with a cardi for day wear, then swish the night away with some added statement jewellery and heels! Our Lyra shirt dress and customer fave Indigo also have serious swish factor.

Pinafore perfection
Perfect for styling with your handmade statement collars, pinafore dresses are ideal all year round, especially for these in-between seasons.

Cosy up

But sweaters don't have to be plain and simple. Why not try out some floral embroidery or some iron-on vinyl for a sassy quote. Tilly hacked her own Billie sweater dress to have ruffles on the shoulders, and yes she did create a tutorial to go along with it - yay!
