Tilly's Shoulder Ruffle Billie Hack

I love love love the simplicity of the regular sleeve version of the Billie sweatshirt dress. Having said that, I can't say no to a ruffle, so decided to add experiment with some little shoulder flourishes on one of my Billie creations. And I love the result!

Truth be told I got the inspiration from a similar top Khadija on The Apprentice once wore. Not my usual source of fashion inspiration, admittedly!

I cut out a long crescent shape piece for each ruffle, sewed a lettuce edge hem on my overlocker to give it that rippled effect, then gathered the other edge in place to the bodice shoulders before adding the sleeves. If you fancy adding some shoulder ruffles to your own make, stay tuned as I've got a full tutorial coming next week with a video AND a free pattern download ;)

The fabric is a beautiful floral See You at Six terry which I bought from Lamazi Fabrics, along with matching ribbing for the neckband, cuffs and hem band. It's relatively lightweight for a sweatshirt fabric, with a loop back, but still lovely and cosy thrown on over a vest and tights. I've been wearing this loads these past months.

BTW, in case you've seen my Stay Home and Sew Billie from a post in early December and are wondering why the baby bump seems smaller, it's simply because I took these photos a while ago. The bump is waaaay bigger now! The dress still fits nicely so I think I'll be getting quite a bit more wear out of this before I pop...

This was one of those speedy hacks that made all the difference to my make. Remember to pop back to the blog for my next post on how to make the shoulder ruffles!
