Coco Party Time!

PARTY TIME!!! You guys, I'm so excited to see y'all at the internet #SewingCoco party!

I'm wearing my latest Coco top, whipped up last night using some leftover striped fabric from one of the pattern sample tops, topped off with a lovely hot pink textured fabric for the yoke and sleeves (both from Simply Fabrics in Brixton). Looking at the photos, I'm not 100% happy with the shape of the armhole in these photos - I stitched it a little tight at the bottom on this one, making the top scrunch up a little bit (NEVER drink wine before sewing!). Howevs, it's such a minor thing and doesn't really bother me - overall, it's love! Back to the party...

Loads of guests are at the party already, including Renee, Winnie, Camille, Diane, Nikki, Ornella, Janet... and more! We're having a great time, bopping along to this gem submitted to the party playlist by DJ Découd-vite...

Come join us! Post a photo (or lots of photos!) of yourself wearing your Coco top or dress on your blog / Twitter / Instagram / Pinterest anytime today. Use the hashtag #SewingCoco so we can all find each other and tweet me or leave a link in the comments on this post so I can see and help share some photos! I'll do a round up post next week, and I'll send a signed copy of my book as soon as it's released to the party guest who makes me shriek the loudest with glee (whether it's for the design of their Coco, jaw-dropping sartorial wisdom, photography skills or whatever).

We've really gotta bump Camille off the decks. What do you want to add to the playlist? My own party song suggestion is 'I Wish' by Skee-Lo - tunage!

In other news, I've revamped the Coco sewalong page with pretty pictures - check it out! Loads of posts to help you make Coco, and more to come...

Party!

  6. Me too Jennifer, I still have not found any suitable fabric at an acceptable price, one lot I sent off for said medium weight but was a light t shirt weight imho, it was £9.50 a metre too! Can we have wine anyway and be inspired?! Fiona

    1. I got a sample from Tissu fabrics that was a good weight and Cloth Spot. Though the latter only have a very small selection. Was a lot cheaper than £9.50
      Hope you find something!

  8. Thanks so much for a truly brilliant pattern Tilly. It was so easy to follow, and I made a dress I LOVE. It was only my second time sewing knits so I was very excited that it turned out so neat and perfect. I wore it today and so many people commented on how great it looked. I blogged about making my own Coco on Random Crafting Advetnures. I'd love to be included in your gallery.

    3. Yeah, I guess we both LOVE polka dots and colored tights... ;)

The fabric itself (a kind of embossed jersey) was probably not the best choice for the Coco. I'm sure it works better for a more shaped project (an A-line dress with bust darts or a princess seam), but it was such a nice discovery at the local market. And sooo chip!!!

Hope you won't waking up with a hangover tomorrow morning... ;)))

  15. Hi Tilly! I did mine, but I did not like the result :( , I washed the fabric and it lost color and "body", and it looks not pretty :( besides, I sewed it with my serger and I could not do the sides open as it has to be, I need to do another one, this time I will sew first with the serger (to make look nice inside) then I will use zig zag stitch in order I can do the open sides of the top.

  28. Hi Tilly, this pink + stripe combination is just gorgeous (and I live close to Simply Fabrics which is a bonus)! I'm tempted by your Coco pattern and was hoping you could advise on whether you think print v PDF would be better for a first time pattern follower? I have experience in sewing but have never followed a pattern so want to ease myself in slowly! Thank in advance x

  29. Hi Tilly, I finally got round to sewing my Coco dress today. I decided to use some (very!) cheap stretchy fabric and create a wearable muslin - you can see the results on this link: http://gb.pinterest.com/pin/446419381785968204/
This dress was a joy to make and I'm already planning Coco number 2, 3, 4, 5 etc in some more up market fabrics :))))
